Project Management Methodology

Project Management has proven to be the most effective method of delivering products within cost, schedule and resource constraints. However, for us Project Management is more than just statistics, it furthermore involves open communication and developing prosperous professional relationships. Employing practical techniques to explore and understand your project goals through a combined effort as well as establishing awareness of all factors that may affect the execution.
Additionally, by considering Project Management as a process we are able to establish and provide a concrete baseline to build upon and through predefined sub-processes and varying iterations attain the ultimate end goal of the project. A brief summary or a high-level overview of our Project Management follows:

A High-Level Overview On Our Project Management Techniques:

Initiation & Planning

At DPS the practical commencement of the project kicked off by documenting the Project Charter. Defining the requirements and goals as well as outlining any potential hurdles along the way, in a clear and structured manner. Similarly part of the first phase also includes the analysis of the project as a whole, deciding which development model and tools are apt for the undertaking while factoring in the preferences of the customer. These steps aid in developing a solid foundation, however, requirements change and evolve, to adapt as quickly and effectively as possible, processes are selected from an ever augmenting pool of knowledge and experience which provide streamlined flows to incorporate changes through any part of the development life-cycle.

Estimation

The second phase of Project Management starts with a structured breakdown of all the tasks which accumulate to make the Project as a whole into three categorical estimations. The general rule is to be able to define a task which is its simplest form and easily comprehendible. Category one is Size Estimation, a numerical value representing the complexity of the task. Next in line is Effort Estimation which directly correlates to the number of working hours required to deliver a finalized version of the task selected. The last categorization of estimates refers to Cost, simply put the breakdown of the total amount of capital vital to achieving an established product. Once all the estimations are completed and signed off, the next part is to carry forth with Resource Planning, assigning groups and teams to tasks based on size, effort and cost.

Review, Finalize & Integrate

At the end of this phase, our dev team starts with the development of the source code. However, before work on the code starts all documents and plans accumulated by our business analyst up till this point are subject to a final review. If required amendments and/or improvements are incorporated and signed off by not only the development team but all potential stakeholders and parties involved. From this point on the integration part commences.

Progress vs. Plans

Although identified in an individual phase, our Project Managers find it essential to highlight the monitoring and corrective phases run parallel amongst all phases, consistently providing feedback and generating detailed reports at regular intervals. The two main purposes of the Monitoring phase is to cross-examine KPIs, identified during the first (Plan) phase of Project Management, against intended progress and actual progress. Along with detecting, if any, nonconformities to take further action upon.

Corrective Actions

Hurdles are a fact of life regardless of the premise, what is important are the actions taken to eliminate the time and expense of any deviations on the way to achieving our goals. Hence any nonconformities highlighted from the Monitoring Phase are addressed as well as tracked to closure as quickly and effectively possible due to a vast collection of experience and domain-based knowledge archives.

Closure

The Project Closure phase is just as important as the Project Initiation Phase. During the final phase of the project, all the information gathered in terms of achievement, lessons learnt and so much more are consolidated and stored. Keeping in mind any potential requirements that may arise can easily be integrated, due to the extensive referral documentation, without having to start at the beginning. After which a meeting is held to formally introduce the final product and attain approval along with an official sign off of the Project Closing.
The benefits of approaching Project Management as a process are obvious, amongst them the most prominent is providing a clear and accurate picture of progression throughout the Project Life-Cycle. Which is essential in developing a working relationship with any Client.
